Effect of Seismic Pounding on Adjacent Blocks of Unsymmetrical Buildings Considering Soil-Structure Interaction

چکیده
During earthquake buildings which are closely spaced vibrate out of phase if there is insufficient distance between two adjacent building to accommodate maximum lateral displacement, they collide with each other this phenomenon is called as pounding. Pounding leads to verse damages to structure as the responses are drastically increased in terms of base shear, absolute acceleration, impact force. Soil structure interaction has both beneficial as well as detrimental effects on the response of structure SSI lengthen the time period and displacement of structure whereas it reduce other responses like base shear ,impact force and absolute acceleration. In this work the pounding effect between adjacent blocks of unsymmetrical buildings separated by seismic gap as per IS4326:1993 by considering SSI is studied by using SAP2000 software.
